Why This Software Development Company Loves Working in Greenville, SC

Laura MacPherson March 15, 2018

We chose to move Designli to Greenville for a reason. The city is a leader in technology, and it has a thriving startup culture. Plus, it’s just a fun place to live. With a flourishing downtown that includes an award-winning park, life is good here. If you haven’t been to the area, you should come and visit. Here are a few things you won’t want to miss while you’re here. We think you’ll understand why we love living and working in Greenville, SC.

OpenWorks

OpenWorks is the coworking space where we first ran our company when in the early stages of existence – before moving out to an independent office space. Not only is OpenWorks in the heart of downtown Greenville, it’s also the place where we’ve met collaborators and fellow startup entrepreneurs. Members are always hosting meetups and events like Women Who Code, the Greenville HubSpot Users Group, SC Codes, University Innovation Fellows, and TEDx Greenville.

The Founder Institute

The Founder Institute is an idea-stage accelerator and startup launch program that turns out many highly-successful startup companies. We’re sure you’ve heard of a few of them — like Udemy, SimpleReach, and Kindara. The organization features graduate showcases and hosts networking events that are open to the public.

Falls Park

Our downtown park has won multiple awards and has been featured in countless national publications, including Travel and Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, and The Washington Post. In addition to landscaped pathways, a unique, single-side suspension bridge, and an outdoor venue that hosts Shakespeare in the Park each summer, the park features a beautiful waterfall. Falls Park connects to two other lovely parks, Cleveland Park and the Cancer Survivors Park, which are also worth exploring.

The Village of West Greenville

“The Village,” as it’s affectionately called, is home to over 60 artist studios, galleries, shops, and restaurants. Greenville’s art community is unmatched for a city of our size, and the heart of it is in The Village. It’s a thriving community that continues to grow. The Village is especially enjoyable to visit during First Fridays, the art crawl that happens on the first Friday of each month. You can learn more about the art scene in Greenville by checking out the Metropolitan Arts Council website.

Coffee Underground

This coffee shop has been a Greenville landmark since 1991. In the mornings, you’ll find professionals meeting to discuss business. In the afternoons, you’ll find moms stopping in for a caffeine jolt and college students studying (and more business being conducted!). In the evenings, the shop turns into a date night hotspot and venue for comedy shows and poetry readings. And they have good coffee — we know because we’re frequent customers.

The Saturday Market

We’re looking forward to the start of another farmers’ market season. The downtown Saturday Market is a vibrant, bustling place where you can find everything from organic vegetables to cut flowers to handmade soap. With over 70 local vendors, there’s a fantastic selection of just about anything you could want. You’ll hear live music and enjoy cooking demos, too. It’s a great place to relax and appreciate a Saturday morning.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail

If you’re into running (or walking, or rollerblading, or biking), you won’t want to miss the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a 9.9-mile rails-to-trails pathway. Along the route, there are plenty of fun stops, including parks, ice cream shops, cafes, a juice bar, a brewery, and even geocaches. You can easily spend a day exploring this fantastic trail.

We’re thankful to be in Greenville, and we hope you’ll come visit our fair city!
